BRANDON "B"

TYLER SPEER

FOREVER 23

Brandon, known to his loved ones as "B," was a light-hearted soul with a heart that beat for others. He had a way of bringing laughter into any room, the kind of person who could lift your spirits just by being near. He was funny, sweet, and deeply loving. He wore his heart openly and had a gift for making people feel like they mattered.

If his loved one could go back and relive a moment with him, it would be one of the ordinary yet unforgettable mornings. Brandon once made sausage gravy from scratch, surprising everyone with how good it was. He was proud then. He had a place of his own with his girlfriend and their son. It was a moment of peace, of growth, of family. One that lives on now in memory.

The hardest part is the "what if." His family wishes they had been there when fentanyl took him. Maybe, they think, they could have changed something. But the truth is, Brandon was already a hero. A police officer once told his brother that Brandon had saved another young man’s life after he had been stabbed. Even though he could have been risking trouble with probation, Brandon acted without hesitation. He used his own shirt to stop the bleeding and stayed until the ambulance arrived. He never told his family. That was just who he was.

If they could say one more thing to him, it would be simple and filled with love:
"I love you, and I am so sorry I wasn't there when you needed me."

Brandon lives on in his son, in the stories still told about his laughter, in every person he made smile, and in every life touched by his compassion. He may be gone from this world, but his love did not leave with him. It remains, fierce and full, in the hearts of those who carry his memory forward.
